CLOUD CUCKOO LAND

Roger Stennett is a Welsh poet, dramatist, screenwriter, audio and animation writer who has written thousands of poems since the 2020 global pandemic struck. Cloud Cuckoo Land represents the distillation of some 4,000 works into a selection of 100. In a Classical Greek comic play by Aristophanes called ‘The Birds’, cuckoos were challenged to build a city in the sky amongst the clouds, to prove how powerful and godlike they were. Such a bizarre undertaking was clearly unreasonable and impractical, and ever since that time the phrase has been regarded as shorthand for impossible plans, unrealistic schemes and crazy dreams.

Classicist Roger Stennett remains undeterred. Covering a wide range of themes and approaches including love poems, nature poems, historical poems, theatrical poems and poems of childhood, every page turn is an encounter with a new joy, an old friend, a common foe or a familiar sense of the cycles of lived experience.
